How many of you have a china cabinet full of beautiful china on display? Have you ever used them? Some may be wedding gifts from your registry or inherited from your mother or grandmother.  When I was growing up, we used our “good china” for special holidays. We had “everyday” dishes we used regularly. We had a dishwasher, me. Yes, I was the dishwasher. I grew up as an only child, so my duties included washing dishes everyday.

Well fast forward to when I am an adult with two children.  I cooked meals for them and we ate on regular dishes. So they took turns in washing dishes. I have never been a fan of paper plates and I really don’t like them now because they are bad for the environment and plus the added expense of keeping them stocked. You may not agree but I feel special when I eat off of regular plates or china. I use the real china when I entertain. I want my guests to feel special. Why do we have the “good” china on display? Are we not good enough to eat off of the “good” stuff? I love china and crystal.  I had some crystal wine glasses and one day my daughter came out of the bathroom crying. I asked her,”what’s the matter?” She said that she liked the nice glass and wanted to use one, so she took it in the bathroom to get some water and it broke. I told her it was okay. You know I appreciated the fact that she enjoyed the nice glasses. So now as an adult, she has a love for nice things, too. She uses real dishes now. So does my son and his family.

I want to leave you with these thoughts. Aren’t you worth using the nice things in your life? Or do you just want to keep them on display and allow family and friends to inherit them when you’re gone. My saying is, my children will inherit my things but they will be well used. I am going to enjoy them while I can. I am worth using the nice things in life.

Let me know your thoughts on this matter.
